Stop the presses because Mums’ Going To ICELAND!! No, this isn’t an advert for your favourite frozen food store. I’m excited and proud to announce that Caroline and I are off to the actual icy country to fundraise for Sue Ryder!
We’ve committed to Trek around Iceland in October later this year. This is our biggest challenge yet, both mentally and physically. Who would have thought that two Mums from Market Deeping would face such an exciting adventure?
The four day trek will see us join a bevvie of other fundraising beauties. All there to raise money for this deserved charity, it is such a once in a lifetime experience.
The four day trek starts in Ulfljotsvatn, in Southern Iceland, where we will have our first chance to see the amazing Northern Lights. This fantastic natural light show is hoped to be spotted at the end of our first 6 hour hike….yep…6 hours…

The next day we head to the largest natural lake in Iceland, where we will follow horse and sheep trails into an area of geothermal hotspots. After another 4-5 hours of walking we will be glad to hit the hay at our hostel.
Day three starts gently with a wonderful walk near the small town Hveragerfli, known for its hot springs and fumaroles (steam vents). After that we’ll soon descend into the Sauoardalur Valley.
Our final leg will see us setting off from Reykjadalur for another 6 hour climb into the hilts. This day is all about steam vents, hot springs and bubbling mud pools….bit like our local swimming pool then. J We might even get a chance to take a dip in a natural pool before heading back to Reykjavik for a celebratory night on the icy tiles!

It’s our 35th charity Dabble Day, in aid of course of Sue Ryder. If you haven’t been to a Dabble Day before you need to come along. It’s a fabulous way to try new jewellery and crafting techniques. If trekking around Iceland wasn’t enough, our 24-hour craft-a-thon starts at 9am Saturday 25th April and finishes at 9am Sunday 26th April. It is exactly what it says on the tin – 24 hours of non-stop creativity at our Market Deeping store. All in aid of the Sue Ryder charity.
