Hot Trends and the New Colour of 2019

Hello Beautiful Beaders,

Well what an exciting time in the Beading calendar! The new year invites a whole new raft of design ideas and trends for us to follow. We are going to look at just a few of them in this week’s trend based blog, so get your pen and paper out and your creative caps on!

First stop is the new colour of the year, the vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral. This pretty shade of reddy pink hopes to embrace us with warmth and nourishment in our continually shifting environment. Said to represent the fusion of modern life, PANTONE Living Coral is a colour that appears in our natural surroundings both on land and beneath the sea. An effervescent colour who’s real life counterpart, the coral reef, provides safety and shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of the natural world.
Staying in line with the colour of the year we are expecting to see a wave of shells in jewellery trends for 2019. Michael Kors set the tone with his glistening shell-shaped rings and matching pendants, while Anna Sui layered necklaces with multiple treasures from the sea.

Call to nature? Maybe so, because another hot trend is going to be feathers.
Trailed from an earring or woven into bracelets and rings, our feathery friends are very on vogue. Even the godfather of glamour Valentino opted for a feather motif with his latest beautiful range of silver jewellery.

Whatever the design the key word is BIG. We can expect to see statement jewellery straight from our catwalks to the high street. Big necklaces, big bangles, big rings and VERY big earrings.

Trends like this are easily replicated at home in our own jewellery making. Take for example a gorgeous slice of agate or other large semi-precious stone. You could simply thread this on one of our amazing selection of kumihimo cords to make a stunning oversized pendant. Add a couple of shell or feather embellishments and you’ll be rocking the catwalk 2019 styleee!
I have to say that hairbands also mean serious business next year. Designers like Miuccia Prada and Christian Dior are leading the way with pièces adorned with studs, feathers (obvs), ribbons and leather.

We can expect hairbands to be huge in wedding fashion trends in 2019. Great news for any creative people as they are a lovely project to make or customise. I’m even thinking of having a fabulous headband workshop at the Riverside Makery? What do you think? Comment below if you’d be interested in this trend setting skill.
So that’s just a few of the hot new trends to get your creative juices flowing. I hope you’ve found it as exciting as me. I just can’t wait to get started!
I’m super excited to see what you guys make of it all, literally. So send me your photos of your finished pieces as I’d love to feature them in the new year blogs.
Until then trendy people, happy beading!
